The Kokusai Shinzen Karatê Do Renmei Toshinkaikan is a full-contact style of karate that was founded in Japan in January 1984. The organization, the International Karate Federation Toshinkaikan, was created by Kancho Yuji Shimizu. Kancho Shimizu has over 50 years of experience in karate and currently holds the 8th Dan rank. The Honbu Dojo is located in the city of Anjo, near Nagoya. Kancho created the organization as a means of promoting strong bodies and a kind, respectful attitude among its members. A primary concern of Kancho is the education of its younger members. Kancho stated: "...Through karate-do training, I hope that children become considerate and kind-hearted individuals. I consider it of utmost importance to nurture these individuals for the future..." This attitude is reflected in all Toshinkaikan organizations around the world. In 1998, the Toshinkaikan Kickboxing Academy was established, and the Toshin Gym training center was opened and became affiliated with the Japan Kickboxing Federation. Additionally, the Toshinkaikan's annual tournament was named Battle Front 1 and became one of the most well-known karate events in Japan. Currently, there are also Battle Front 1 events in Mexico and Brazil. With branches in countries such as Brazil, Mexico, India, Iran, and China, Toshinkaikan Karate seeks education as a tool for human growth. The word TOSHIN means TRUE SPIRIT FIGHT!
